Here's a quick sketch for an idea I'm working on with Gavin. Just recently discovered Painter 9 so I thought I'd give it a spin. Had no idea how to use the program so I ended up painting everything all on one layer. It's kind of sketchy but I kinda like (except for the right leg).

I read a quote once that said painting is easy when you don't know what you're doing but hard when you do. Perhaps the truth in that statement lies with the fearless application of color when you are completely ignorant of technique. I find myself in a place where I'm a vaguely familiar with color theory but still weak on technique.

Actually, I find that probably applies to my entire approach to art and animation right now. Sometimes, I feel I'm on the verge of grasping something important, but when I'm aware of it, it slips from me again. Anyways, here's some more doodles from my tablet (I love this thing!). I currently can't see very well right now because of something the optometrist gave me to prevent me from focusing my eyes. Interestingly enough, I kind of like the way they look since I didn't give a damn about how I was drawing it at the time.

Recently just purchased an 6x8 Intuos 3 tablet and wanted to play around with color a bit. I've been feeling pretty rusty lately when it comes to drawing since most of my time is spent working with Maya these days. As much as I enjoy 3D, there's nothing that can replace the tactile sense of drawing.

I've been thinking alot lately about things I need to improve on. Primarily, I think I need to get a much better sense of structure and anatomy. And I also need to trust my own instincts more and be ready to try something that may not work. Step away from the same old formula and be open to fail.
